Global production remained stationary during the first quarter of 2024, further extending the lukewarm performance registered since the second half of 2022. In the previous quarter, it recorded a moderate growth of 0.9 per cent.

On a more detailed level, industrializing economies have been able to increase their production level over the past years and reached a quarter-over-quarter output growth of 1.4 per cent, leaving behind industrial economies. The latter reported a stalled performance in the current quarter.

UNIDO contributed to the latest report “How COVID-19 is changing the world: a statistical perspective, volume 3.”, published by the Committee for the Coordination of Statistical Activities (CCSA), which can be found here: https://unstats.un.org/unsd/ccsa/. This report focuses on impacts on the global living conditions from different perspectives. UNIDO emphasized the developments of last year’s global manufacturing production (see p. 26f.).

It is a widely established economic fundamental that the cost of production inputs is directly linked to the performance and competitiveness of a business. As a consequence, any associated stakeholder may be worried that an increase in input prices may result
