Privacy Policy

This privacy policy statement applies to the statistical Web site stat.unido.org (“the Portal”), which is powered by the Statistics Division of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (collectively, “UNIDO”, “our”, “we”, “us”). It establishes how we handle the information we learn about you (the “User”) - such as the types of information we collect regarding visitors to the Portal and how we may use that information - when you visit the Portal. Protecting the privacy and personal data of our visitors is an important aspect of the way we create, organize and implement our activities on-line and off-line.

Please read this Privacy Policy carefully. We may make changes from time to time, and without notice, so please check back regularly to keep informed of updates. In addition, please review our Terms of Use, which governs your use of the Portal and any content you submit to it.

Purpose Specifications and Data Collection

In general, you can browse UNIDO’s Statistical Portal without disclosing any information about yourself. If you visit the Portal to read or download information, we collect and store only the following information that is automatically recognized: the date and time, the originating IP address, the domain name, the type of browser and operating system used (if provided by the browser), the URL of the referring page (if provided by the browser), the object requested and the completion status of the request.

To access certain features of the Portal (e.g. saved queries), you may need to register with us. During the registration process you will be asked to submit some personal information (name and e-mail address). By entering your details in the fields requested, you enable UNIDO to provide you with the services you select. Bear in mind that no registration is needed to access the main features of the Portal.

We may use or disclose personal information that we collect about you for purposes including the following:

Cookies

As described above, we sometimes collect anonymous information from visits to the Portal to help us provide better customer service. For example, upon agreeing that the Portal may "Remember me", we keep track of the domains from which people visit and we also measure visitor activity on the Portal, but we do so in ways that keep the information anonymous. UNIDO also records people's geographical location using their IP address, so whenever they visit the Portal, they are in most cases presented with statistical information relevant to the country of their location. Insofar they register on the Portal, cookies are used to save their password, so that it does not have to be re-entered at each new visit.

We use the information that we collect to measure the number of visitors to the different areas of the Portal, and to help us make the Portal more useful to visitors. This includes analysing these records periodically to measure the traffic through our servers, the number of pages visited and the level of demand for pages and topics of interest. The records may be preserved indefinitely and used at any time and in any way to prevent security breaches and to ensure the integrity of the data on our servers.

We collect the anonymous information we mentioned above through the use of "cookies". You can find out more about how we use cookies below.

What Is a Cookie?

Cookies are text files containing small amounts of information, which are downloaded to and stored on your computer or mobile device when you visit a website or mobile application. They are used to recognize your computer when it returns to a website or mobile application it has visited previously. Cookies are widely used in order to make web sites work, or to work more efficiently, as well as to provide information to the owners of the web sites. Cookies may tell us, for example, whether you have visited the Portal before or whether you are a new visitor.

You are always free to decline cookies if your browser permits, although in that case you may not be able to use certain features on the Portal and may be required to re-enter information more frequently to use certain services on the Portal.

The Portal serves only the following types of cookies to your computer or mobile device:

Cookies necessary for essential purposes

These cookies are essential to provide you with services available through the Portal and to use some of its features, such as access to secure areas. Without these cookies, services you have asked for, like secure login accounts, would not be possible.

By choosing “Remember me” during the login time, your login information will be stored in the cookie. If you choose to logout, the cookie will be deleted.

Content sharing and social networking cookies

These cookies enable users to share pages and content through third party social networking and other platforms. The companies that serve these cookies may also use your information to serve targeted advertising on other platforms.

None of this information is reviewed at an individual level. If you do not want your transaction details used in this manner, you can either disable your cookies or opt-out at the order or request stage. We collect the personal data that you provide upon registering on the Portal, when you make an order, or contact us by email or contact form. We do not associate the information stored in a visitor's cookie with any other personal data about that visitor. All our employees and processors who have access to personal data and are associated with the processing of that data are obliged to respect the confidentiality of data.

Optional Information Sharing

Registering on the Portal is optional. If you choose not to register or provide personal information, you can still use the Portal, but some features like "Save Query" will not be available. UNIDO views the customer information that it collects as a valuable and confidential asset of which we take great care to ensure its safety.

We do not rent, sell or share personal information about you with anyone except under the following circumstances:

to third party providers who provide services on our behalf such as fraud prevention;

we may disclose your personal information to any law enforcement agency, court, regulator, government authority or other third party where we believe this is necessary to comply with a legal or regulatory obligation, or otherwise to protect our rights or the rights of any third party.

Updating Personal Information

You can ask us whether UNIDO is keeping personal data about you, and you can also request to receive a copy of that personal data. Before sending you any personal data, we will ask you to provide proof of your identity. If you are not able to provide proof of your identity, we reserve the right to refuse to send you the personal data.

At any time, you may request that we correct your personal information in our records. You may also request the deletion of such information, except when it has been collected for a specific purpose for which you have given your consent, for the performance of a contract to which you are a party, or in order to comply with a legal obligation. For such requests, please contact stat@unido.org.

Security

UNIDO has implemented technologies and security policies to help protect and secure your personal information from unauthorised access, improper use, alteration, unlawful or accidental destruction and accidental loss. We will continue to enhance our security procedures, as new technology becomes available. However, no electronic data transmission or storage of information can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. Please note that we cannot ensure or warrant the security of any information you transmit to us, and you use the Portal and provide us with your information at your own risk. UNIDO employees and processors who have access to personal data are obliged to respect the privacy of our visitors and the confidentiality of their personal data.
